Microsoft has announced further investments in OpenAI as part of an extended cooperation. The investment is in the billions of dollars and is intended to enhance the two firms’ long-term collaboration.
The move comes only weeks after rumours surfaced that Microsoft was preparing a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, the developer of popular AI tools such as ChatGPT and DALL-E 2.
The agreement’s details have not yet been published, but Microsoft has announced that it anticipates “new categories of digital experiences” that would encompass consumer and business products. The Azure OpenAI Service for developers, which will play a vital role in the cooperation, will be one of the core features of the collaboration.
Microsoft will also be OpenAI’s only cloud partner, with Microsoft’s cloud services powering all OpenAI workloads across products, API services, and research. This will enable access to the finest AI infrastructure, models, and toolchains for developers and organisations across industries to develop and run their applications on Azure.
“We have formed a partnership with OpenAI with a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratise AI as a new technology platform,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in a news statement.
Earlier this month that Microsoft planned to integrate ChatGPT with the Bing search engine to compete more effectively with Google. According to rumours, Microsoft plans to add a GPT text-generating mechanism to Microsoft Word and Outlook. This might allow AI to create emails depending on input commands or to use online information to fill out articles you’re writing. The firm refers to this as a “new category of digital experience.”
Both companies are excited to collaborate toward developing powerful AI to provide consumers and businesses with new and unique experiences.
