Amazon has solidified its commitment to the artificial intelligence sector with a staggering $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic. Amazon had initially earmarked $4 billion for investing in Anthropic. The recent announcement confirms the completion of this investment, with Amazon injecting an additional $2.75 billion on top of the $1.25 billion it committed last year, as reported by CNBC.

Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, the vice president of Data and AI at Amazon Web Services (AWS), shared insights into the partnership between Amazon and Anthropic. He highlighted the significant history and collaboration between the two entities in aiding organizations worldwide to implement advanced generative artificial intelligence applications. AWS, being the largest cloud service provider globally, brings to the table its state-of-the-art infrastructure and managed services, enhancing the development and deployment of generative AI applications.

Anthropic’s recent development, the Claude 3 model family, has been making waves in the AI field. These models have quickly risen to prominence, surpassing the capabilities of rival OpenAI’s models. Claude 3 is available in three variants, each with different pricing and capabilities. The entry-level model, Haiku, despite being the least expensive and least powerful, has received commendation for its performance and affordability compared to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 Turbo and the more advanced GPT-4.

With the introduction of Claude 3, Amazon swiftly incorporated these models into its AWS Bedrock service. This move allows AWS cloud customers to access a variety of large language models (LLMs), including proprietary options like Anthropic’s and others from different providers, to create custom applications.
