OpenAI has officially announced the release of the highly anticipated ChatGPT mobile app, which will be available today, initially on iOS. This move aims to address the proliferation of unofficial and dubious applications attempting to capitalize on the popularity of ChatGPT. The app is available for free, but some advanced capabilities, such as GPT-4 and plugins, will require a ChatGPT Plus membership.

The launch of the ChatGPT mobile app is expected to attract a larger user base, particularly among iPhone users, as it provides an alternative to Apple’s own voice assistant, Siri, which has faced criticism for its limitations and Apple’s perceived reluctance to embrace AI and technological advancements.

One of the key advantages of the ChatGPT app is its ability to sync user history across devices. This means that users can access and review their previous searches from the web interface on their browsers. Additionally, the app integrates with Whisper, OpenAI’s open-source speech recognition system, enabling users to input text accurately through voice commands.

OpenAI emphasized that ChatGPT Plus subscribers will enjoy the benefits of GPT-4 features within the mobile app. Furthermore, they will gain early access to new features and experience faster response times, enhancing their overall user experience.

The ChatGPT app for iOS will be available in the United States first, with plans to spread to additional nations and regions in the following weeks.

OpenAI has confirmed that they are currently working on developing an Android version of the app, which will be released in the near future.
